Over the last couple of years, we have taken our environmental commitments very seriously. We understand the importance of working together to prevent climate change & achieve carbon neutrality in our industry.
We has been working directly with Shropshire Wildlife and Severn Trent Water to plant hundreds of new trees & hedgerows in rural Shropshire. Our green strategy is to plant trees, hedging and create new wetland which will breathe a new lease of life into our ecosystem for our children and children’s children.
We are heavily involved in recreating wetland on our farm in Shropshire. We are restoring the 18th century field plan which involves replanting 4km of hedging, encouraging new wildlife corridors which are a key component of wider ecological networks. This allows species to migrate and reproduce safely in the wild.
We have installed bat & owl boxes across our land, which provide safe accommodation for raptors – barn owls, tawny owls and little owls as well as red kites, buzzards and a multitude of other predators that rely on a healthy populations of rodents.
We have changed the course of the River Worfe that rans through the land with the support of Shropshire Wildlife and Severn Trent. With restoring the original meanders in the river we are providing natural flood defences and wetland. By creating new wetland we are able to improve carbon sequestration enabling more carbon to be locked in the land; which is really needed in this new era of climate change.
We have massively reduced use of herbicides and pesticides in arable farming by using environmental grazing. This step has drastically reduced poisonous contamination of soil, turf and other vegetation – which prevents poisoning local birds, insects & fish in the River Worfe.
Works are being undertaken in all aspects of the arable landscape to encourage wildlife corridors between neighbouring farms, which will have massive impact on overall ecological & wildlife systems.
